On the beachfront streets salt settles on the surface and holds moisture against the paint film, lifting it from underneath. The wash down is most of the job and skipping it halves the life of the finish.

Why it matters where you are
The coast is not one set of conditions
A house on the sand at Malua Bay and a house under trees at Nelligen fail in completely different ways, and they need different preparation and different products.
Shade and damp
On the bush and river blocks the problem is walls that never fully dry. Mould and lichen get treated rather than just blasted off, or they come straight back through the new coat.
Sun
North and west elevations chalk and fade years ahead of the rest of the house. Dark colours on fascias and garage doors take it hardest, so the product gets chosen for the wall it is going on.
