A house exterior with fascia, gutters and cladding newly painted in Dulux Monument

Exterior painting

The bulk of the work, and the one where prep decides everything. Salt, sun and westerly weather pull paint off a coastal house faster than most people expect, so the surface gets taken back properly before anything new goes on.

  • Weatherboard, render, fibro, cladding and brick
  • Fascia, barge boards, gutters, eaves and soffits
  • Windows, doors, garage doors and railings
  • Full wash down, scrape, sand and fill before priming
  • Bare and patched areas spot primed, then two top coats
  • Exterior grade paint rated for coastal exposure

Interior painting

Whole houses, single rooms and everything between. You keep living in the place while it happens, so the furniture gets covered, the floors get sheeted and the gear goes away at the end of each day.

  • Walls, ceilings and cornices
  • Doors, architraves, skirtings and window reveals
  • Cutting in by hand, no tape lines left behind
  • Cracks, nail holes and old fixing points filled and sanded
  • Stain blocking on water marks and smoke damage
  • Low odour and low VOC paints where you want them

Roof restorations

A tired roof drags the whole house down from the street, and it is usually the cheapest big change you can make. Tile and metal both, washed back to a sound surface first.

  • High pressure clean and moss treatment
  • Broken tiles replaced and ridge capping repointed
  • Rust treated and primed on metal roofs
  • Sealer coat, then two coats of roof membrane
  • Gutters and downpipes done at the same time if you want them

Driveway and concrete restorations

Driveways, paths, patios, carports and pool surrounds. Old concrete that has gone patchy and stained comes back as one even surface, and it stops looking like the part of the house nobody ever got to.

  • Pressure washed and degreased
  • Oil stains treated, cracks cut out and filled
  • Surface etched so the coating actually bonds
  • Plain colour, flecked or stencil finishes
  • Non slip additive on wet areas and slopes

Pressure washing

Booked on its own, or as the first step of a paint job. A house wash on its own makes a bigger difference than most people believe until they see one side done.

  • House washes, including render, cladding and brick
  • Driveways, paths and patios
  • Decks, fences, screens and retaining walls
  • Roofs and gutters
  • Mould and lichen treated rather than just blasted off

Decks, timber and front doors

Timber that has silvered off on the weather side. Sanded back to clean grain, then oiled or stained so it holds up to the next few summers instead of the next few months.

  • Decking, handrails, posts, steps and screens
  • Front doors and entry frames
  • Pergolas, carports and garden structures
  • Sanded, cleaned and coated in oil, stain or a clear finish
  • Loose boards and popped nails fixed before coating

Commercial and strata

Shops, offices, motels, unit blocks and townhouse complexes. Work gets staged so the place keeps trading and residents keep their front door and their car space.

  • Staged by building, block or floor
  • Out of hours work where the trading day needs it
  • Colour schemes matched across a whole complex
  • Scaffolding and access sorted as part of the job
  • One written quote for the committee or the manager to take to a meeting

New builds and renovations

Working in alongside the builder and the other trades, so the paint goes on when the surface is ready rather than being crammed in the week before handover.

  • New plasterboard sealed, then two top coats
  • New timber and MDF primed on all faces
  • Render and blueboard sealed before top coats
  • Touch ups after the other trades have finished
  • Scheduled around the builder rather than the other way round

What is in a quote

The prep is written down, not assumed

A cheap quote is almost always a quote with the preparation left out of it. Ours says what gets done to the surface before any paint goes near it, so you can hold it up next to anyone else's.

The surfaces, listed

Which walls, which ceilings, which trims, which side of the house. If it is not on the quote it is not in the price, and you can see that before you agree to anything.

The prep, listed

Wash down, scrape, sand, fill, caulk, and what gets primed. This is where the hours actually go and it is the part worth comparing.

The coats and the products

The brand, the product and the number of coats, named. Two top coats over primer is the standard here, not an upgrade you have to ask for.
