The houses here

Tuross Head sits on a peninsula with water on nearly every side, which is unusual even for this coast. The housing is largely single-storey brick and fibro with a strong retiree and holiday population, and a lot of it was built in the same era, so streets tend to come due for a repaint at roughly the same time.

Water on three sides means there is no sheltered elevation to fall back on. Every wall of the house is a weather wall to some degree, and the wind carries salt across the whole peninsula rather than just the front row.
