The houses here

Nelligen is a small village on the Clyde, upriver from the coast, and the housing has a lot more character and a lot more timber than the beach suburbs. Older cottages, plenty of weatherboard, sheds and outbuildings, and houses on larger and often treed blocks running down towards the water.

What the weather does to paint in Nelligen

Off the open ocean, so salt is much less of a factor. What Nelligen gets instead is river damp and heavy shade, plus proper cold in winter. Timber is the main concern, and the enemy is moisture in the substrate rather than salt on the surface. Coating timber that has not dried out is the mistake that costs people a repaint.

What happens on the day

Furniture gets covered and floors get sheeted before anything is opened.
