Malua Bay runs from the beach and the surf club back into quieter residential streets, and the housing gets older and lower the closer you get to the sand. Beachfront and near-beachfront places are often heavily glazed with big decks facing the water, and behind them it settles into standard brick and fibro homes.
What the weather does to paint in Malua Bay
The beachfront strip is genuinely harsh. Constant salt-laden air, wind straight off the water and full afternoon sun on the western return. Powder-coated and painted metal here shows rust bleed early, and timber goes grey fast. It is one of the pockets where cutting the prep short shows up within a single season.
